What is Genius Loci?  [Latin genius locī : genius, spirit + locī, genitive sing. of locus, place.]

1) The distinctive atmosphere or pervading spirit of a place.  2) The guardian spirit of a place.

 

So.. What is my Genius Loci…?

With the book of M. Heidegger (‘Genius Loci’ towards a Phenomenology of Architecture) as an inspiration I discovered a few similarities to my own perception of space and architecture: Phenomenology, Dwelling and Synaesthesia. Using these words as a basis I created a matrix that should theoretically allow me to go back in time and unveil the environments I treasured the most. Within my memory objects appeared first and the places and environments are slowly taking shape around them, linking those objects together. Therefore I started to map the objects and the connections, resulting in a graphical representation of my memory, my Genius Loci. I transformed the graphic into a 3D movie which shows a magical journey through my past from Object to Object.
